The 10R transmissions use LFS, AKA "Linear Force Solenoids". These solenoids apply clutch pressure, clutch lubrication, torque converter control and much more. The factory clips are thin and over time will bend and make the solenoid to shift outwards causing pressure loss or compromising apply timing and torque converter issues. 
 
Simply remove your factory clip and install the steel insert to the factory clip to prevent this issue.
