The DCT470 torque dampers are one of the biggest issues with the transmissions. It is responsible for the smooth transition of flywheel torque to the clutch basket. This puts a lot of streets on the springs inside and to make matters worse these springs are ground flat with too little of the coil left on the spring which is thin and weak. Once the end breaks off it can fast track spring failure which can put pieces of damper spring in the transmission which can take out your oil pump gear or end up between gears.

 

Other competitor dampers use aftermarket springs that do not measure the same as OEM causing engagement issues and speed sensor codes. Also with their dampers we have found to be welded so hot the inner plastic guides are melted and the damper is also warped. We use revised OEM spec springs and these are lathe cut and hand tig welded and repeatedly cooled to ensure no damage to the plastic guides.
